Prof. Wonserk Kim: Exploring the Clinical Value and Future of the Six-Pulse Mode in Q-Switched Laser Treatment
Professor Wonserk Kim of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital has published a comparative study on single-pulse and six-pulse modes of the 1,064 nm Q-switched Nd: YAG laser, using LTRA Global’s Miin Laser as the research device. According to Professor Kim, the six-pulse mode of the Miin Laser divides the same total energy into six consecutive sub-pulses, enhancing melanin-targeting efficiency while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. He explained that this mechanism works like receiving several gentle taps instead of one strong punch—lower peak power, yet safer and more effective overall. Introducing the concepts of Thermal Stacking and the Dual Effect, Professor Kim highlighted that the Miin Laser can simultaneously target melanin and stimulate dermal remodeling, achieving both pigment correction and collagen regeneration in a single procedure. Through this study, Professor Kim hopes to encourage physicians to re-examine the fundamental structure and operating principles of Q-switched lasers. He also predicts that while current systems divide a single wavelength into multiple pulses, the future will move toward multi-wavelength, multi-pulse technology, enabling multiple wavelengths to be emitted within a single shot for more precise and personalized treatments.
